Why do ignorant people think the Y2K period (1999-2001) was all light and cheery?

It was like thinking the 30s were light and cheery because of the movies. I was born in 1986 and anyone who was an adolescent during that time would disagree. Anyone who was an adolescent back then would remember dark music, dark clothes, rampant bullying, pressure to be x-treme, bomb threats to schools, lots of shootings ect. It seems people think that the era was all problem free.
