How can I get my puppy to be quiet at night?

I have a new puppy at everything is going great..except at night. He won't leave me alone while I'm trying to sleep. I bought him a nice new bed and I've gotten him some new toys to keep him occupied at night but he keeps jumping up on the bed and waking me up wanting to play. I tried putting him in the guest room with his bed and toys before I went to bed but he then started to cry and I couldn't leave him in there...I felt too bad (it's heartbreaking to hear a puppy cry.) I dont know what to do, I love him but I haven't gotten more than 4 hours of sleep since I've gotten him and I'm exhausted! I walk him at least 2 times a day for 20-30 minutes plus I play fetch with him and work on training him daily. Any suggestions about what I can do? Should I leave him in the guest room and hope he gets over his fears of being alone?
