Why is it when some rap fans want to sound smart and you ask who they listen to?

They always name people like Nas, Immortal Technique, Tupac and some other pseudo-intellectual rapper and THEN they have to put the rappers that are out now down? It seems to me that these particular people have an air about them. They want to be seen as smart but they're really pretentious. And they always have to go into some argument about real hip hop and all that.
