Could the Core of the Earth actually stop spinning?

I have seen the movie that was based on this subject both from owning it and watching it during science cl in school in the past, granted now I'm 19 years old and am in college but could something like that of the movie actually happen? In the film the reason why it stopped was because of them using a weapon that triggered seismic activity deep beneath the earths crust and caused mive earth quakes. The government knew about this yet lied saying that project destiny was not that problem and that i could actually help in restoring the earth's core if their mission did not succeed. the first signs was that the Earth's magnetic field the thing that protects us from radiation from the sun was depleting and even being erased completely and causing mive storms on the planet due to this drop in the field. Anyway I have heard stories that the hole in the Ozone layer of our planet in real life is actually depleting and even in modern times have actually disappeared completely and some believe that this is due to the fact that the core of the earth is deteriorating. or something of that nature. could this event as described in the film actually be real?
