Does anyone remember this survival story?

About 10 or 15 years ago, Reader's Digest ran a feature length story about a man who survived 8 weeks or so in the snowy mountains, I think in Nepal. He repeatedly read en's "Great Expectations" to p the time. He had red hair. Does anyone remember the man's name or the name of the book the article was taken from or anything else? Thanks very much.
